Clark brings more than 37 years of experience resolving complex commercial disputes, including more than two decades devoted to commercial first-party property insurance and builder’s risk matters nationwide. After a long career representing insurers in high-exposure coverage disputes, Clark now focuses on serving as a neutral mediator and arbitrator in complex property insurance and construction-related cases, drawing on decades of experience evaluating claims, coverage positions, litigation risks, technical expert issues, and resolution strategies.

Clark completed Mediation Skills Training through the Northwestern University School of Professional Studies, where he received formal instruction in negotiation dynamics, dispute resolution techniques, and mediation process management. His career transition from advocate to neutral is grounded in extensive firsthand experience handling sophisticated disputes from inception through litigation, arbitration, mediation, trial, and appeal. 

Clark has litigated commercial first-party property insurance coverage cases involving millions of dollars, as well as several where hundreds of millions of dollars were at issue. He is particularly experienced in builder’s risk cases, including those involving geotechnical issues, faulty workmanship and design, LEG3, and delay in start up coverage. He tried a multi-million dollar builder’s risk case involving a public works project to a verdict, where a jury found in favor of his client after less than two hours of deliberation. He had also handled significant business interruption cases, as well as COVID-19 cases. Over the years he has worked closely with forensic accountants, structural engineers, geotechnical engineers, construction scheduling experts, building and construction consultants, and other experts. He has worked on claims involving a wide variety of projects and properties. These have included disputes involving airports, apartment buildings, carpet mills, casinos, chicken processing plants, churches, coal mines, commercial buildings, concrete caissons, condominiums, dairy farms, fracking equipment, gas stations, highway construction projects, hospitals, hotels, industrial furnaces, restaurants, retail malls, rockets, and warehouse and distribution facilities.

Clark is a past Chair of the Property Insurance Law Committee, Tort, Trial & Insurance Practice Section, of the American Bar Association. He is frequent lecturer and author in the area of first-party property insurance and builder’s risk. He has spoken at PLRB Large Loss conferences, the Loss Executives Association conferences, and the ABA Property Insurance Law Committee’s CLE meetings.

Clark received his Bachelor’s degree in Political Science from the University of Illinois in 1985 (Phi Beta Kappa) and his law degree from the UCLA School of Law in 1988.
